Functional Consultant
On larger projects, a Functional Consultant will work closely with the Solution Architect to deliver solutions. On smaller projects, this may be a hybrid role.
A Microsoft Power Platform Functional Consultant is responsible for gathering business requirements, designing solutions, and configuring and customizing Power Platform apps. For example, they may create custom Power Apps to automate business processes and integrate with other Microsoft 365 apps.
They design, implement, and optimise business solutions, focusing on understanding client needs and translating them into functional specifications. Functional consultants configure the Power Platform to meet those needs and provide training and support to users.
They are responsible for creating and configuring apps, automation and solutions. They act as the liaison between users and the implementation team and promote the use of these solutions within an organisation. The functional consultant may perform discovery, engage subject matter experts and stakeholders, capture and document requirements, and map those requirements to features. They implement components of a solution including application enhancements, custom user experiences, system integrations, data conversions, custom process automation, and simple visualisations.
Functional consultants need to have a good balance of technical know-how and business understanding and ideally, will have relevant domain knowledge. This helps them create customised solutions that meet their clients' specific needs using the platform's capabilities. The challenge is to tackle complex technical requirements while keeping a strategic focus on the clients' business goals.
